Surgical Retina Rounds
COBRA Surgical Retina Rounds Series, an ongoing surgical video-rounds webinar run by fellows for fellows. Cases dissected step by step while a panel from both institutes talks over the tape.
Rounds, after hours
Surgical retina fellows from the Cole Eye Institute and the Byers Eye Institute host live surgical video rounds geared toward retina fellows.
Fellows present the cases. They run from straightforward “fundamentals” procedures to complicated repairs, dissected step by step (techniques, surgical decision trees and the core principles of retina surgery) while a faculty panel comments in real time.
Fellowship directors and younger faculty from both institutes sit on the panel. The series has run 18 episodes since August 2021, and on Friday, October 9, 2026 it steps out of the webinar and into a room on South Peters Street in New Orleans.

The next session
How an episode runs

-
A fellow takes the table
A surgical retina fellow from Cole or Byers brings the case. Their own video, their own decisions.
-
The tape rolls
From straightforward fundamentals to complicated repairs, the video is walked through step by step.
-
The panel talks over it
Fellowship directors and younger faculty from both institutes comment live: technique, decision trees, what they would have done differently.
-
Back to first principles
Every case gets pulled back to the core principles of retina surgery. That is the part that shows up again in the next case.
